QBE Helps Feed Hungry Kids in Haymarket
Weekend Food Backpack program gets support from area defense technology firm to help needy student at Mountain View Elementary
WASHINGTON, June 4, 2012 — Quality Business Engineering, a leading management and technology consulting organization for the federal government and defense community, announced today it is providing financial and volunteer support to help local children in need attending Mountain View Elementary School through the Weekend Food Backpack Program, which provides backpacks with non-perishable food before each weekend during the school year to low-income students to ensure that no child goes hungry.
“We’re proud to help out with this important program to help kids in need in our local community,” said Dr. Shawn Landry, QBE president and CEO. “We hope that our efforts will ensure that all kids at Mountain View Elementary don’t go hungry over the weekend.”
Each backpack comes loaded for the weekend with juice, milk, a breakfast item, a hot food item, one snack, a fruit cup and a dessert. For longer breaks, the program provides children with the weekend food plus a large box of cereal. At the end of the 2010/11 school year, the children in the program were sent home with backpacks as well as gift cards to help them during the summer months.
QBE has fully funded the Mountain View Elementary School’s Weekend Food Backpack Program for another year, and has helped expand the service to include additional hungry children from the area.
